Thanks for reading! This is a re-upload of my very first printed comic, Little Magic #1. I made it across January of 2017. Today is the four year anniversary of its first printing. I’m uploading it because I’m feeling especially nostalgic, and not just because I’ve just gotten the exact Evangelion tattoo that I put on Patti’s character design four years ago.
Obviously this was an important work to me because it was when I decided to become a comic artist, a moment that still informs the inflection of my life today. Reading back through it for the first time in a few years, I can see all the places where I’ve drastically improved as an artist and writer. I can also see where my essential interests are still the same: Little Magic was a comic about female sociality, and it sought to depict the ways that women talk about their interests as an opportunity to reveal their internal lives. This is still the primary goal of my comics today. In many ways, this comic laid the blueprint for video games personal writing that lead to LONE SHADOW and YOU, DEFEATED, and my latest comic, APPLE/SEED, is a successor to its core premise of two women with different personalities talking about themselves and their lives at a moment of strained connection.
